S.O.M.E. thing Wonderful

In this time of crazy sales both in store and online, I'd like to draw your attention to a very worthy cause.
S.O.M.E. which stands for So Others Might Eat has a holiday request that is great for the whole family.
Shoebox Gifts
A shoebox gift
is a shoebox filled with personal items useful to a homeless man, woman, or child. We ask that you PLEASE WRAP THE LID AND BOX SEPARATELY. This will help SOME staff and volunteers to insure that the shoebox contents are equitable. Also, please place a tag on the outside of each box designating whether it is for a "MAN", "WOMAN", or "CHILD."
In the case of a shoebox gift for a child, please also indicate the age range (and gender, if applicable) of the intended recipient. Finally, please consider that as we serve many more men than women, we need more men's shoeboxes than women's shoeboxes.
Each box should include:
MEN: A hat, a scarf, a pair of gloves (sets are extra nice). A pair of socks and a pair of underwear. Large or trial size deodorant, razors, trial size soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste.
WOMEN: A hat, a scarf, a pair of gloves (sets are extra nice). A pair of socks and a pair of underwear. Large or trial size deodorant, razors, trial size soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion.
CHILDREN: A toy and/or game. A hat, a scarf, a pair of gloves (sets are extra nice). A pair of socks and a pair of underwear. Trial size soap, shampoo, lotion.

*Items should be new and unopened.
*Long johns also make great presents.

My family and I make a party out of it. We invite a few families over-have dinner and do SOME good.

Sea of Sales

With so many sales going on, many of my clients are overwhelmed by the bargins and not sure what to buy.

Here's my advice:
Take inventory of what you have.
What is missing and what needs to be replaced?
Are you also looking for holiday gifts?
Make a shopping list and a budget.
Take a look online and check out who has what and for how much.
Print out coupons.
Then put on a comfy pair of shoes and start shopping.
Dont be tempted by low prices-ONLY BUY WHAT YOU LOVE.
Then email me your fav purchases and I will post them on my blog!

Making Waves

Adrift on the Signal
Photographs by Tom Drymon
Inspired by short wave radio enthusiasts who scan the air waves for signals around the world, adrift on the signal is an attempt to capture the random, nonlinear nature of memory and time. With photos chosen from Tom's collection from the past 20 years, he conveys a sense of timelessness, where memories burble to the top and then are lost again, or stay with you for days on end.

Style Profile: Claudine Kurp

Fabulous Mom , Claudine

Name: Claudine Kurp

Occupation: Creator of DC Metro Mommy.com, an online parents’ resource guide of the best shops, services, events and everyday essentials in the DC Metro area.

Children: One beautiful 3 year old little girl named Gia.
What's your "uniform?” – Jeans and a black Banana Republic tee on days when I just don’t have time to even consider a big wardrobe choice.

What is your secret fashion sin : On gym days, I tend to linger all day in my workout gear even though I am not hitting the gym until the late afternoon. Not sure if that is a felony or misdemeanor in the fashion world.

What's your favorite current fashion bargain? I think you can find amazing prices at Nordstrom’s during a sale. The Summer Anniversary Sales are wonderful. I recently saved $80.00 on my Uggs Boots! H&M is a good spot for belts. I also tend to stalk sale racks at the end of each season. My Uggs were purchased in the middle of the summer!

I also hit Macy’s. Macy’s has a sale every 10 minutes. I am forever carrying a Macy’s coupon with me.

What's your favorite fashion splurge? Two beautiful Furla handbags that I purchased in Italy on my honeymoon.

What are your favorite stores? Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, Banana Republic and T.J. Maxx. I found an awesome Calvin Klein dress and a pair of Lucky Jeans at T.J. Maxx. I also like online stores Zappos.com and Shoebuy.com.

What do you see as your biggest shopping challenge? Finance and trends. Since having a child, leaving my job and upgrading my home…guilt sneaks up on me when I am shopping. That nagging voice of “Do you really need this?” lurks into my head too often! Plus I find that since I left the workforce I am just not as tied into the “it” product or the latest trends, hence the uniform of a black tee and jeans.

What’s your beauty secret? Sleep, exercise and Dermalogica products. The Daily Mircrofoliant from Dermalogica is wonderful.

Tight Walking with Fashion

Tights and open toe shoes.

This is a subject up for debate. Everyone asks me about this one.

Remember, not every trend needs to be incorporated into your wardrobe. If you like it-wear it, if not- dont.

Word of warning... you may look stylish-you may look senile-that's all I am saying.
