The Ghosts Are All Put Away

The holiday season has officially started! Thanksgiving, Cocktail Parties, Holiday Parties!
What are you going to wear and how much is it going to cost you? If only you could  just throw on a sheet like a ghost.
No worries.
Pull out your favorite dress.
Then accessorize! Find great statement necklaces, earring, bags.
As long as you look and feel great, it wont matter if you re-wear.

A Good Denim Is Hard To Find

When you find a pair of jeans that you love...buy two pairs because you know you will want to wear them all the time.

Treat them with love. Wash them inside out and air dry your denim.
You will probably want to throw them in the dryer every three washes or so, so that they do not get baggy.
ok, so I realize this is a picture of Brad Pitt, but he does have jeans on!

The Ripple Effect

How old are your bras?
Did you know that it is recommended that you replace your bras every six months?
Don't panic.
Depending on how many bras you own and how often you wear them, your time table may vary.
But, if you cant remember the last time you bought a bra...it is time to go shopping!
Here are some tips:
*A well fitted bra will cause back ripples. Try going up a size (when you do that you may need to go down a cup size)
*Look for a bra with a wide back strap, more comfort and less ripple.
*When shopping wear or bring a form fitting tshirt. It is the best was to see if you like the shape your bra is creating.

Dry Rub

Do you know the proper way to exfoliate your body? Thai at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa in Bethesda Maryland taught me.
Begin with a gentle exfoliater (they have a great product SPA7/52) and rub a small amount on your dry skin. Then rinse. Then moisturize. So simple, so effective.

Reuse Your Tissue

Tissue paper that is! for Wrinkle Free Packing!
Most stores wrap your clothing purchases in tissue paper. Instead of throwing it in your recycling bin, smooth it out, fold it and store it in your suitcase. *You must only use color free tissue paper!!!
Here's the trick :
Lay your shirt out flat, place tissue paper on top, and then fold as usual. Then wrap another piece around it.
When you reach your destination you will be amazed at how great your clothes look.
Also bunch up the tissue and put it in your purses and shoes so that they keep their shape.

Dress your Age not you Dress Size

Remember the saying, "act your age not your shoe size"?
Well, I am saying, "dress your AGE not your dress Size"
Just because you are a higher size  does not mean that you should dress like an old fromp, and if you are a smaller size you should dress like a teenager! Just because it fits does not mean it fits YOU.

SEPTEMBER STYLE ADVICE-A MONTH OF INSIDER TIPS TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER-FASHION 101

TIP OF THE DAY:
If you did the unspeakable and hung your sweaters on hangers creating what one of my clients calls "shoulder nipples," run, do not walk to your favorite drycleaner. Admit your sin and sigh with relief because they can usually fix it. And then you must vow to only fold your sweaters from now on.
(Bloomingdales.com)
If your drycleaner ever hangs your sweaters, immediately remove the hangers (and always the plastic). Then next time request to have them folded for all future cleanings.

SPRING MUSTS

Are you ready to say goodbye to all your winter clothes and shoes?

Its time to pack away the wool,  furs, winter coats and boots.
1. Dry clean your wools, remove from plastic dry cleaning bags, store in  hard plastic bins or fabric bins with cedar blocks or sachets. (Containerstore.com)
2. Have your leathers and furs cleaned and stored at your dry cleaner or fur salon. Never keep them in plastic bags.
3. Take your winter shoes and boots to your local shoe repair. Have them cleaned, polished and repaired (heels) and pack them away in shoe bins or boxes.

Pills and Razors!

Q-From Donna-

So here is my two-fold question:

- what is the best “sweater shaver” for all those little fuzz balls?

- what fiber content should I look for so that I don’t have all those annoying fuzz balls to begin with?! Thank you my sweet for solving this dilemma for me!!!

A.from Joyce- I like the Oreck electric shaver. But in a pinch...try a disposable razor!

Pills are inevitable. Some fabrics pill more than others-Acrylic is the worst, mohair pills the least. If you are buying cashmere, go for quality. It's all about the twisting of the yarn-tmi.

Choose your Trend-Carefully

YES, these furry vests are in this season.
Can they look great with the right outfit? Sure.
Is this for all women? No.
Each season there are many different "IN" styles to choose from and as a stylist I love to explore all of them.
But you have to decide what is best for you.
Consider your age, lifestyle, and what city you live in before you slip into this one (oh, by the way...leather leggins are also hot for the fall).

Top This!

This fall/winter hats are in. Which is very good for cold weather and bad hair days.

The best way for you to find the right hat to try different sizes shapes, colors and textures.
Your hat should be in proportion to your body. If you are petite try a small hat placed on an angle-see DKNY. DVF shows a fun large hat. I have no comment about Alexander Wang's.
Express yourself through your hat.

Strut Your Stuff

Q. from Donna
I love the look of high heel sandals with slacks but hate how the pant goes between my shoe and and foot in the heel-do you know what I mean?

A. from Joyce
YES! I have had that happen to me many times, and now I have found the solution.
Struts by daryn!
It's an adhesive plastic strip you put on the inside of the cuff area of your pants. You cant see them and it works!
You can order them online http://www.out-ease.com/

Sea of Sales

With so many sales going on, many of my clients are overwhelmed by the bargins and not sure what to buy.

Here's my advice:
Take inventory of what you have.
What is missing and what needs to be replaced?
Are you also looking for holiday gifts?
Make a shopping list and a budget.
Take a look online and check out who has what and for how much.
Print out coupons.
Then put on a comfy pair of shoes and start shopping.
Dont be tempted by low prices-ONLY BUY WHAT YOU LOVE.
Then email me your fav purchases and I will post them on my blog!

Tight Walking with Fashion

Tights and open toe shoes.

This is a subject up for debate. Everyone asks me about this one.

Remember, not every trend needs to be incorporated into your wardrobe. If you like it-wear it, if not- dont.

Word of warning... you may look stylish-you may look senile-that's all I am saying.
